Date 1897 Notes The photograph shows Robert Osceola and family butchering a manatee. Manatees were a favorite food, sometimes called pork of the sea. The Seminoles were hunters and gatherers. They hunted mainly deer and bear and gathered wild fruits and vegetables. Bears were considered a delicacy. In addition, they caught fish and turtles.
