Notes
Corn
was an
important
agricultural
product
of the
Seminoles.
Corn
becomes
edible
in
May
and
June
and was
eaten
boiled
or
roasted.
When
the
corn
ripened
, a
quantity
of
it
was
laid
aside.
The
dried
corn
was
ground
up
with a
mortar
and
pestle
made
from a
hollowed
cypress
log
and a
large
wooden
stick.
Palmetto-stem
baskets
were
used
to
sift
the
pounded
corn
to
separate
the
meal
from
hard
kernels.
Ground
corn
was
used
in a
variety
of
dishes.
