NotesThis print was part of a set of prints produced by First Federal Savings featuring historic landmarks in Broward County. Elmore Brown was the artist. After her husband died, the proud and independent Ivy Stranahan first rented rooms so that she could hold onto her home. In the 1930s, she leased the lower floor of her home to a series of restaurateurs. By 1940, the Blackwells leased the part of the historic home and named the restaurant the Pioneer House. It specialized in Southern style cooking and was a popular Sunday family dinner destination. Ivy Stranahan shared quarters with the Blackwells in the house until her death in 1971. The restaurant closed in 1979 and the site was rezoned as a Historic Preservation District.
