historic
landmarks
in
Broward
County.
Elmore
Brown
was the
artist.
After
her
husband
died
, the
proud
and
independent
Ivy
Stranahan
first
rented
rooms
so
that she
could
hold
onto her
home.
In the
1930s
, she
leased
the
lower
floor
of her
home
to a
series
of
restaurateurs.
By
1940
, the
Blackwells
leased
the
part
of the
historic
home
and
named
the
restaurant
the
Pioneer
House.
It
specialized
in
Southern
style
cooking
and was a
popular
Sunday
family
dinner
destination.
Ivy
Stranahan
shared
quarters
with the
Blackwells
in the
house
until
her
death
in
1971.
The
restaurant
closed
in
1979
and the
site
was
rezoned
as a
Historic
Preservation
District.
