Broward County Library Main Library’s Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library is pleased to present an exhibition from the personal collections of the members of the Fontaneda Society: Book Collectors of South Florida.
The Fontaneda Society serves the interests of book lovers through studies in book collecting, fine printing and related graphic arts, bookbinding and the many amenities of book design, typography and bibliography.
Highlighted in the Fontaneda Society’s Members’ exhibition are selected items from the following collection subject areas: 19th century cookbooks; American children’s books; letterpress books from the Golden Hind Press; ABC books; ballet books and memorabilia; a Cleveland Amory broadside; books-about-books and book collectors and collecting; series Americana and other books of regional literature; Frank Lloyd Wright books; artists’ books; and books on jazz discography.
The Fontaneda Society: Book Collectors of South Florida, is an independent group of book collectors that draws the majority of its membership from the south Florida counties of Broward; Miami-Dade; and Palm Beach, although it also has other Florida and national members.
The Society is a member of the prestigious Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies (FABS), an association of other book collectors groups throughout the United States that shares ideas and information on the book arts.
The Society’s meetings are held the third Thursday of the month from October to May at 7:00 p.m., usually in downtown Fort Lauderdale at Broward County Main Library’s, Bienes Museum of the Modern Book, 100 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Unless otherwise noted, the meetings are free and open to the public.
